Making the Economic and Financial Case for Restoration

Earth Economics has been invited by the World Bank to speak at the United Nations' workshop "Making the Economic and Financial Case for Restoration: the Role of Cost and Benefit Data and Valuation Methodologies." The workshop convenes stakeholders from intergovernmental agencies, academia, and the private sector to create a roadmap for attracting the finance needed to fund ambitious global restoration activity.

Our executive director, Maya Kocian, will present "Restoration Cost and Benefit Data: Mapping the Current Landscape and Priorities," sharing Earth Economics’ experience in creating and maintaining the world’s largest database of ecosystem service valuation estimates.

The UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration aims to prevent, halt, and reverse ecosystem degradation on every continent and in every ocean, coordinating national commitments to restore up to 1 billion hectares of land lost to development, an area roughly the size of China.
