Introducing New Earth Economics Interns
We are pleased to introduce our 2022-2023 interns, Kameron Eck and Makaela Whalen. We are already very grateful for their contributions to our work, and look forward to working with them over the coming months!
Kameron Eck
Kameron started his internship in June and will be working with Earth Economics through the 2022-2023 academic year. An Environmental Science student at Central Washington University, he is passionate about the intersections between economics and environmentalism. As Kameron has progressed in his studies, a key question has emerged - “how do we collectively incentivize collaboration for a better future?”
Kameron supports several projects at Earth Economics, namely our partnerships with community-based organizations in New York and climate resilience work with Accelerate Resilience Los Angeles. He is excited to be working with our team for the good of communities and to turn theory into practice through this internship.
Apart from necessities what is something you could not live without?
I’m not sure how I could ever live without hair ties. A world without hair ties would be a disaster!

Makaela Whalen
Makaela joins us from Tacoma’s own Pacific Lutheran University, starting her internship in September at the start of the academic year. She is an Environmental Studies major with minors in Political Science and Pre-Law. With aspirations of becoming an environmental or animal lawyer, Makaela is eager to delve into the research and data collection that goes into environmental policy-making.
So far, Makaela has been helping out with data collection for EVToolkit, our proprietary database of ecosystem service values to support Benefit Transfer calculations at all spatial resolutions. We are so glad to have her as part of our team.
